Flooded Zumbro Falls Properties To Be Bought Out
ZUMBRO FALLS, Minn. (WCCO) -- More than a dozen southeast Minnesota families and businesses won't have to worry about the spring floods destroying their homes.
The state has been working with FEMA to buy 14 flooded-out homes and businesses in Zumbro Falls.
The properties will be knocked down and left as open space.
Minnesota's Department of Public Safety and Homeland Security say future floods -- similar to the one that hit the area in Sept. 2010 -- will be less expensive because resources won't go towards trying to save the properties that are in direct threat of the rising waters.
