Flooded Fargo-Area Toll Bridge Might Stay Closed
FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- A flooded toll bridge between Fargo and neighboring Moorhead, Minn., might remain closed even after the Red River recedes.
Bridge Co. President Clifford Moore tells The Forum newspaper that he'll keep the bridge closed unless Moorhead agrees to a five-year extension of the operating agreement involving his company and the two cities.
Fargo already has agreed to an extension. The Moorhead City Council took no action this week.
Moore says he needs a loan to pay for $100,000 worth of repairs and back taxes, and he can't repay a loan in the two years before the current operating agreement expires.
Fargo senior engineer Jeremy Gorden says relatively few vehicles use the bridge and a closure would not significantly affect traffic patterns.
