Flood Outlook Numbers Increase Slightly For Fargo
FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- The National Weather Service has slightly increased the expected spring flood levels at the Red River in Fargo, but city officials say they're prepared for the worst-case scenario.
The weather service report released Thursday shows a 50 percent chance the river will reach 33.8 feet in Fargo and a 5 percent chance it will make 38.2 feet.
The February outlook listed a 5 percent chance of the river going to 37.8 feet.
Major flood stage is considered to be 30 feet, though recent efforts by Fargo and Moorhead, Minn., officials to improve protection has fortified most of the metropolitan area to 37 or 38 feet.
The outlook for the Devils Lake basin shows a 50 percent chance of increasing by about 2 feet, which is mostly unchanged from February.
