Flight Evacuated At MSP After Cabin Fills With Smoke

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- More than 200 people had to be evacuated from a Delta flight bound for Seattle Tuesday.

Flight 2153 was powering up and just about to push back from the gate when it filled with smoke.

"The air was being recycled, and smoke filled both the cockpit and the cabin area," said Pat Hogan, spokesman for the Metropolitan Airports Commission.

Some of the 214 passengers used the jetway, but others exited the Boeing 757 out emergency exits and the inflatable emergency slides. Hogan says no one was injured, or suffered any ill effects from the smoke.

The passengers were put onto another aircraft to be flown to Seattle.

The plane remains at its gate at MSP, where it will be examined by inspectors from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Hogan said it's not known yet what caused smoke to leak into the cabin.
