First-Ever Figure Skating 5K Takes Place At John Rose MN Oval
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Ever wanted to participate in a 5k but weren't much of a runner? Well, now is your chance!
To celebrate the 2016 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships the Guidant John Rose MN Oval will host the inaugural Figure Skating Frozen 5K.
On January 10, skaters of all ages are invited to come out and participate in the non-competitive race in Roseville.
From 12 to 2 p.m., skaters will complete 12 laps around the Roseville oval , either on figure or hockey skates. Skate rentals will be available on site.
Former U.S. Champion Ryan Bradley will also participate in the event as the honorary race starter.
Each participant will receive a pom-stocking hat, a participation medal and a ticket voucher for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
The race cost $25 in advance or $35 on the day of the skate. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Minnesota Skating Scholarship Fund.
Additionally, HealthPartners will be hosting a skate drive. The healthcare company is asking participants to bring new or gently used skates to be donated to kids across the Twin Cities. The first 50 people to donate will receive another voucher to the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
