1 Firefighter Hurt In North Minneapolis Blaze
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis firefighters got out just in time after a fire Saturday morning on Lowry Avenue brought a building's walls down, authorities say.
Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire on the 1100 block of Lowry Ave. N at about 7:07 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived, there was heavy smoke showing from a two-story commercial building that had apartments on the second floor.
Authorities said a second alarm was called at about 7:20 a.m. to get aid on the scene to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby businesses.
At about 7:45 a.m., fire crews were evacuated from the building after the fire caused structural concerns to the building. About an hour later, fire officials say the west side of the building collapsed onto Emerson Avenue North. The fire then started to burn through the roof.
Three adult residents and one child escaped the building without injury. One firefighter was injured and transported to North Memorial Medical Center for treatment. Authorities say the injury is non-life threatening. The American Red Cross is assisting four adults affected by the fire.
Fire crews are still on the scene and preparations are being made to tear the building down. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
