Fired Senate Staffer Denied Unemployment Benefits
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP/WCCO) - The Republican Senate staffer fired for an affair with the majority leader had been denied jobless benefits, reports Minnesota Public Radio.
Michael Brodkorb was fired in December following the resignation of Majority Leader Amy Koch. Brodkorb is appealing the state's decision, and has filed a gender discrimination complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Brodkorb's lawyers will attempt to prove he was treated differently as a man who had an affair with a female superior, despite his claims that several female staffers have never lost their jobs after affairs with male legislators. Brodkorb has also threatened to reveal other inappropriate relationships at the Capitol. His attorney, Phil Villaume, tells MPR that the matter is privileged and private.
