Fire Damages Rochester Movie Theater; No Injuries

ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) -- Firefighters say the sprinkler system in a Rochester movie theater prevented a major fire.

The Post-Bulletin reports that the fire began in a chair in one of the theaters at the Cinemagic Stadium 12 on Saturday morning. It spread to about five other chairs but it was slowed by the activation of two sprinkler heads.

Theater No. 2 was filled with smoke when firefighters arrived at 11:45 a.m. They used a thermal-imaging camera to locate the burning chairs then doused the burning undersides of the chairs.

The room was empty when the fire started. No one was injured, and Cinemagic began showing films on its other screens a short time later.

The initial investigation determined the cause was electrical. Damage is estimated at $10,000.
