Feds To Discuss Carp Strategy At Ypsilanti Meeting
YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) -- Federal agencies are holding the last in a series of public meetings to discuss a long-range strategy for keeping Asian carp and other invasive species out of the Great Lakes.
The meeting will be held Tuesday at a hotel conference center in Ypsilanti. Among the speakers will be John Goss, the Obama administration's point man on the Asian carp issue. Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also will attend.
The Army Corps is conducting a study of how to stop migrations of invasive species between the Great Lakes and Mississippi River basins. One option is separating the man-made linkage between the two watersheds in the Chicago area.
The study is scheduled for completion 2015. Legislation introduced in Congress last week calls for a quicker timetable.
