FDA Wants To Replace 'Sell By' With 'Best If Used By' To Cut Down On Waste

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Do you have a hard time figuring out if something has gone bad in your fridge?

In an effort to cut food waste, the FDA wants to standardize expiration dates.

They want to get rid of "sell by" or "use by" labels. Instead, there would just be "best if used by."

Studies have shown about 20 percent of food waste at home is caused by confusion over expiration dates.
