FBI, Bomb Squad Called Out To Montevideo Home
MONTEVIDEO, Minn. (AP/WCCO) -- A Minnesota man was arrested Friday after authorities found Molotov cocktails, suspected pipe bombs and firearms during a search of his Montevideo home, according to a criminal complaint.
Buford Rogers was charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to an FBI affidavit, agents who are part of the FBI's domestic terrorism squad searched a property at a Montevideo mobile home park Friday afternoon and discovered Molotov cocktails, suspected pipe bombs and firearms.
The affidavit said one firearm recovered from Buford's residence was a Romanian AKM assault rifle and that Rogers admitted to authorities in an interview that he fired the weapon on two separate occasions at a gun range in Granite Falls.
Rogers has a past conviction for felony burglary in Lac Qui Parle County in 2011 and is not allowed to have a firearm. A phone number for him in Montevideo could not be found.
U.S. Attorney's Office spokeswoman Jeanne Cooney confirmed federal and local law enforcement executed a search warrant in the Montevideo area, which led to Rogers' arrest.
Details about why agents conducted the search, or the nature of the investigation, were not immediately available.
FBI spokesman Kyle Loven also confirmed agents were in the area but could not provide any additional information. He said the public is not in danger.
Montevideo police assisted in the operation, but referred questions to the FBI. Members of the Bloomington bomb squad also assisted.
