Father Of 9/11 Victim Cheers Military

By Courtney King, NewsRadio 830 WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- One of the victims of 9/11 was Tom Burnett, Jr., a native of Bloomington, Minn., who died in the crash of United Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.

Burnett was one of the passengers who rushed the cockpit and foiled the plans of the hijackers to crash the jetliner in Washington, D.C. -- possibly into the White House.

This morning, Burnett's father -- Tom Burnett, Sr. -- spoke with WCCO's Dave Lee about the capture and death of 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden.

Burnett Sr. said he has nothing but cheers for our American troops, who were at the center of it.

"I know it's a combination of Special Ops troops, Navy people and I think one or two of our intelligence groups had got him," he said. "I'm so happy because it was the Americans that did it. It wasn't somebody else over there who caught him in bed or something. God bless America is what I have to say."

According to Burnett Sr., the death of bin Laden brings some closure for him, but he doesn't like to use that word.

"I don't use that word closure because I never wanted to. I don't believe much in it. There is not a day goes by that we don't think about Tom and all the other Americans and the western world, the stuff they've taken from these people," he said.
