Father Gets Prison In Son's Drug-Related Death
WINONA, Minn. (AP) — A 59-year-old Goodview man is sentenced to nearly five years in prison in the drug-related death of his 34-year-old son.
Authorities say Jeffrey Schumacher Sr. supplied methadone to his son, Jeffrey Schumacher Jr., who died in May 2012.
Schumacher pleaded guilty in June to second-degree manslaughter. He was sentenced Thursday to 58 months in prison on that charge, and 48 months on a separate charge of sale of methadone to a person under age 18.
The two terms will be served concurrently.
The Winona Daily news reports that Schumacher told the court he made a poor choice. He also said he thought he was helping his son, but made a mistake.
