Fargo Officer Shot In Standoff Has Died
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Fargo police officer who was shot during a standoff Wednesday night passed away Thursday afternoon.
Officer Jason Moszer, 33, was shot when he responded to a domestic situation that involved an armed suspect in a North Fargo home Wednesday night.
According to the Fargo Police Department, around 7 p.m. officers responded to the domestic call on the 300 block of 9th Avenue North after the suspect's son said the suspect had threatened his mom.
Upon arrival, the suspect barricaded himself inside the home and started firing shots at police.
Moszer was hit during the cross fire. Fargo Police say he succumbed to his injuries at 12:45 p.m. Thursday.
Police said the man suspected of shooting Moszer was found shot to death in the home where he barricaded himself. The standoff lasted almost 11 hours.
The Red River Valley SWAT Team has tried sending in robots and have also tried to force him out with smoke and gas. However, there was still no sign of the suspect.
Police said the suspect's son and wife were able to get out of the house unharmed. Some nearby homes were also evacuated.
Police Chief Dave Todd said Moszer was a six-year veteran of the department. The Fargo Forum reports Moszer is the first officer to be killed in a shooting since 1882.
