Family Wants Thieves To Return Hockey Gear Worth $2K
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A family has a message for whoever stole thousands worth of hockey gear from a 13-year-old girl.
Sometime between last Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, someone stole Jordyn Tomaszewksi's hockey equipment out of her mom's car, which had been parked in their driveway.
"It was gone, everything. The whole back of our Explorer was completely empty," said Jordyn's mom, Robin.
And for Jordyn, the timing couldn't have been worse.
"I just sat down and started crying. That's all I did," Jordyn said.
Her hockey equipment was worth about $2,700. And to make matters worse, the thieves took the gear just days before hockey try-outs. To Jordyn, it felt like a trip to the penalty box for no reason at all.
"They don't make the pads anymore, they changed the style of the glove, the skates - they don't make anymore," she said.
For Robin, there's anger that someone would do this, and frustration that she can't fix it.
"To not be able to just run to the store and say, 'You know what, honey? Get whatever it is you need' hurts because I can't do that," she said.
Robin is hoping flyers with pictures of the missing equipment help track down the stolen gear.
For Jordyn, the missing equipment is also a sentimental loss, especially the helmet. On the back is an orange ribbon and the name "Kayleen," for Kayleen Larson. She's Jordyn's friend who recently died after a battle with leukemia.
For Robin and Jordyn, that isn't something you can put a price on.
"That meant a lot. That was her way of honoring Kayleen," she said.
Robin says she is checking Craigslist every day and calling used sports equipment stores every day to see if Jordyn's hockey gear shows up.
For now, Jordyn is using borrowed equipment until she has enough money to buy new gear.
