Family-Owned Truck Shop Destroyed By Massive Fire In Glencoe
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A massive fire in Glencoe destroyed a family-owned truck repair shop Monday night.
According to the McLeod County Sheriff's Office, the fire was reported at 5:25 p.m. at Sidco 4x4, located at 2810 9th Street SE.
"I'd probably be crying if I wasn't on camera," Sidco 4x4 owner Scott Sidwell, or Sid as his customers call him, told WCCO.
Sidwell has run the business for 27 years and had been at the Glencoe location for 11 years.
"I'm a guy that sells unique stuff. That's what my business is and I don't have anything to sell now," he said.
Cold temperatures and high winds made it difficult for fire crews to battle the fire. Nine fire crews responded to allow firefighters to work in shifts.
"It was intense," Glencoe Fire chief Ronald Grack said. "Guys stood there and actually froze, couldn't move, couldn't do anything, so had to change them in and out."
Sidwell said it could take months to clean up the damage. He estimates around $500,000 in damage.
"I just don't know how it's gonna play out," he said. "I'm gonna pray tonight and hope for my lucky stars."
Authorities believe the flames started from a chimney fire from a waste oil furnace.
