Family Needs Service Dog For Child With Brain Disorder
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minnesota family is trying to raise awareness and give hope to help their son with an incurable brain disorder.
Caleb Maaske, 5, is challenged with Chiari Malformation. It creates balance issues and constant pain. A service dog would help assist Caleb with seizures, pain and all his doctor's visits.
The family has partnered with "4 Paws," which trains and places service dogs. They are raising money for the organization to get a new friend for Caleb, free of charge.
"Christmas morning you would think that a 5-year-old would want to stay up and play with his toys, he couldn't make it to noon. You just to have the comfort and a dog there for him when he is not able to go out and play with the other kids," Rachel Maaske, Caleb's mother, said.
The Maaske family will have a benefit for "4 Paws" on Feb. 21 at the VFW in Cottage Grove.
