Fair Vendors Hurting In Record Heat

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (WCCO) – Deep fried anything on a stick at the Minnesota State Fair sounds tasty, but in record heat?

"It's just too hot to even want to think about eating," Spaghetti Eddies owner Edward Porcelli said.

Spaghetti Eddies, known for their deep fried Twinkies, has had a 50 percent drop in business compared to last year.

The State Fair is supposed to be their biggest selling event.

"It's substantial," Porcelli said. "It accounts for maybe 30 percent of our income."

"The profit for my business right now is probably 60 percent of my income," said Tim Weiss, owner of Giggles Campfire Grill.

Giggles Campfire Grill added a new $300,000 pavilion this year to cool customers down, but the heat is just too much.

It's just not just the food vendors feeling the heat. There were no lines for the Striker on the Midway and several rides.
On the plus side, customers that do go to the fair can find open tables and shorter lines.

"It has hurt us a little bit, but it is our Great Minnesota Get-Together," Weiss said.
