Extreme Heat Takes It Toll On Twins Fans At Target Field

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Twins fans left Target Field well before the final pitch, many of them sweating profusely and using any means necessary to stay cool

"I had to dump some water right over my head," said Twins fan Laura Gessler.

The Gesslers are from Stillwater, Minn. They decided to call it a day about half way through the game.

"It's scorching hot, and they are losing," Rick Gessler said.

Inside the stadium, vendors drenched in perspiration sold cold beverages even though the Twins were giving away water for free. Long lines of people waited for water.

"I can usually handle the heat pretty well, but not today," said one woman standing in the water line.

As the sun beat down on empty seats, many fans tried to stay cool in the shade of the concourse, but even there, it was hot.

The Gesslers gave it one last hurrah before heading for the lake.

As they left Target Field, they shouted: "Go Twins!"
