NWS Issues Excessive Heat Warning In Minnesota

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for much of Minnesota, which is also in effect for the Twin Cities. The warning is set to last from Wednesday through Friday.
The expected heat index on Thursday could reach anywhere from 105 to 110 degrees on Thursday, though one model is hinting at the possibility of even ickier conditions:
According to WCCO meteorologist Matt Brickman, Tuesday was already dawning fairly muggy in the southwestern portion of the state, where a number of storms were rolling through early in the day. Those storms are expected to continue sweeping east, reaching the Twin Cities by the middle of the day.
There is also a flash flood watch for the southeastern section of Minnesota, including the Twin Cities. Tuesday's storms could bring upwards of 2 or 3 inches of rain.
Those storms are bringing with them steamy air. Dew points, which were in the upper 50s or low 60s on Monday, should jump up significantly going into the rest of the week. Add to that highs in the mid to upper 90s and it's a recipe for dangerous heat.
The Salvation Army announced on Tuesday that they would open cooling centers in various locations around the Twin Cities for those who don't have proper shelter from the heat, which would also be stocked with water. The following locations will be open from 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m. through Friday:
- 2024 N. Lyndale Ave., Minneapolis (free meal available 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)
- Harbor Light Center, 1010 Currie Ave. Minneapolis (free meal available at 6:00 p.m. , Thursday through Monday)
- 2727 Central Ave. NE., Minneapolis (free meal available 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
- 1604 E. Lake Street, Minneapolis (free meal available at noon)
- 1019 Payne Ave., St. Paul (free meal available at noon)
- 401 W. 7th St., St. Paul (free meal available 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m.)
- 10011 Noble Parkway, Brooklyn Park
- 10347 Ibis St. NW, Coon Rapids (free meal available Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 5:30-6:30 p.m.)
