Excellent Educator: Early Intervention Educator Stephenie Labandz
ROBBINSDALE, Minn. (WCCO) – This morning, the WCCO Morning Show is honoring another excellent educator who has gone above and beyond to make a different in students' lives.
You don't always have to look in a classroom for an excellent educator. Sometimes they make home visits. That's where Edward Moody found this week's honoree.
The bond between early intervention educator Stephenie Labandz and the Lindbo family of Robbinsdale runs deep.
"When you have a family that is as dedicated to their child and to their families as the Lindbos have, you can't help but want to give them your all," Labandz said.
The Lindbo family's 2-year-old Greta was born with cerebral palsy, limiting her control over much of her body. Every week Labandz works on helping Greta move while giving her family hope.
Greta's mother said Labandz is like one of the family.
"She's made it just exciting to see what Greta can do instead of nervous what she won't be able to do," Sarah Lindbo said.
Labandz said, for Greta's sake, being thought of as a family member is a very good thing.
"She is a sharp girl. She's a bright little light," she said. "It's just been so fun getting to know her and helping her become the person that she's going to be."
