Ex-Viking Greg Jennings Hosts 8th Annual Golf Classic For Charity
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Former Vikings Star Greg Jennings hosted his eighth annual golf classic in Maple Grove Monday.
Some of Jennings' celebrity friends battled each other in a golf shootout before the tournament. Several current and former NFL and NBA players played in a "closest to the pin" contest. Actor-comedian Kelly Perine took first place.
The tournament benefits the Greg Jennings Foundation, which helps educate thousands of Minnesota children each year.
"We're geared toward youth and education and we're all about empowering youth. We partner with different organizations," Jennings said. "The beneficiary, the recipient from this year's golf classic will be Mind's Matters, which is an organization in the Twin Cities locally that are geared toward supporting youth and helping them and achieve higher education."
Jennings and his wife Nicole recently created the "Be Great Initiative" to keep kids in school. The program provides funding to Twin Cities organizations for school supplies and educational resources.
Though Jennings now plays for the Miami Dolphins, the Twin Cities area remains his home.
When it comes to charitable giving, Minnesotans are among the most generous in the country. Golf tournaments, especially this time of year, are a popular way to raise money and awareness for various causes.
