Ex-Pres. Clinton Attends Humphrey Statue Unveiling
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Former President Bill Clinton joins a group of Minnesota political figures on Saturday to dedicate a memorial to the late Hubert H. Humphrey.
A 7-foot bronze statue of the Democratic icon known as the "Happy Warrior" will be unveiled on the Capitol Mall in St. Paul. Humphrey served as Minneapolis mayor, senator and vice president before running for president as his party's nominee. He died in 1978.
Former Vice President Walter Mondale, Gov. Mark Dayton, Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken and former Gov. Arne Carlson will speak at the dedication.
The memorial is surrounded by gardens and features granite slabs inscribed with memorable Humphrey quotes.
Later Saturday, Clinton gives the keynote speech at the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party's annual Humphrey-Mondale dinner in Minneapolis. The party renamed the event to honor Mondale.
