Ex-Cubs Player Will Have Civil Commitment Hearing
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- An outfielder who played for the Chicago Cubs in the 1960s is in jail in northeastern Minnesota, awaiting a civil commitment hearing.
Prosecutors say 69-year-old Bob "Shorty" Raudman was arrested in St. Louis County after hitting his wife. But, after a psychologist determined Raudman was mentally incompetent, a judge dismissed a domestic assault charge and ordered the commitment hearing.
Raudman's wife, Rita, tells the Duluth News Tribune her husband has a "devastating illness" and hopes to be reunited with him again.
Raudman played for the Cubs in 1966 and 1967 after he was drafted by the team out of high school in Sepulveda, Calif.
