Erratic Driver Ends Up In Hopkins Pond
HOPKINS, Minn. (WCCO) -- An erratic driver plunged into a small pond in Hopkins late Thursday morning, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Authorities received a call of a car in a pond at 11:27 a.m. on southbound Hwy. 169 just south of Minnetonka Boulevard. Eric Roeske of the Minnesota State Patrol said witnesses reported a male driving erratically. The driver then hit the center median on Hwy. 169 before veering off the right shoulder and into the pond.
Authorities say two witnesses stopped to help the driver get out of his vehicle. Roeske said the driver was a 39-year-old male, but did not release his name. He also said the driver was semi-conscious, but not hurt as a result of the crash. The driver was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. Witnesses at the scene said the driver was "very lucky" to not be more seriously hurt. The witnesses said the man missed a pole and several large trees before plunging into the pond.
Roeske said it appears that a medical condition caused the man to drive erratically and end up in the pond.
