Ellison Hosts Meeting On Ebola in Brooklyn Center
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A Minnesota congressman said he believes Ebola is more dangerous than ISIS.
Rep. Keith Ellison hosted a community meeting Saturday in Brooklyn Center.
The virus has killed more than 4,500 people in West Africa.
So far, only three cases have been diagnosed in the U.S., with one death.
There's a heightened concern in Brooklyn Center, where a high population of Liberian immigrants live.
One woman, whose 31-year-old daughter died of Ebola in Liberia, said she wants to know what will happen to her grandson.
"She left two kids, a girl and a boy," the woman said. The "boy is an orphan right now, so my concern is how to get him over here."
Ellison said Ebola can be fought with direct care, volunteers and the military.
Many of the people in the room were Liberian-born Minnesotans considering going back to that country to serve.
Gov. Mark Dayton also focused on Ebola Saturday, meeting privately with several health care officials.
He heard from the Minnesota Nurses Association, as well as hospital administrators, on what additional measures they'd like to see.
And on Sunday, local Liberians will be joined by lawmakers at another discussion of Ebola.
