Ellison, DNR Hope To Stop Spread Of Asian Carp
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Environmental groups and the DNR joined Congressman Keith Ellison to show support for a plan to stop the spread of Asian carp.
The leaping fish consume large amounts of food needed by native fish, and they're making their way north in the Mississippi River.
And now there's proposed legislation to stop it before it does, by closing the river in Minneapolis.
"That's not the option I'm hoping for," Ellison said. "There are businesses on the river that make important use of it, and it would drive their costs up if we had to close it. But we cannot let this resource waste."
There is another plan to set up a wall of bubbles that would disrupt the carp.
