Ellen DeGeneres Takes Over Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Ellen DeGeneres continued her tour of Minneapolis Tuesday to promote her new time slot at 4 p.m. on WCCO, starting Sept. 12 -- and created quite a stir both downtown and at the WCCO-TV studio.
During her tour, Ellen stopped by the Mary Tyler Moore statue outside Macy's to greet fans -- and the eager Ellen enthusiasts were more than ready for her arrival.
Chants of "We Want Ellen!" lasted for hours before the star's highly anticipated visit.
Mayor R.T. Rybak even declared it Ellen DeGeneres Day in Minneapolis -- but she was hoping for a little more. Ellen asked Rybak, why not a full, national year? Instead the two met in the middle and settled on a full Ellen DeGeneres week.
Fans were so excited to see Ellen, they got up at the crack of dawn to wait in line for a chance to see her.
Jonathan Fishbine arrived at 6:45 a.m. in order to be the third person in line.
Check out a few of her stops along the way. (And the surprise she had in store for our morning meteorologist Mike Augustyniak.)
