Scott Co. Sheriff: Man In Custody After Endangering Infant
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Scott County man is in custody after endangering a 7-week-old baby girl Monday, according to the Scott County Sheriff's Office.
The man, identified after the incident as 32-year-old Lucas Benjamin Bennett, is being held in Scott County Jail on charges of 2nd degree child endangerment and gross misdemeanor domestic assault.
At about 11:15 Monday morning, the Scott County Sheriff's Office received a call about an intoxicated male shooting a firearm into the ground at a residence in New Market.
An adult female left the residence with her children and the man entered the residence. Police were told a 7-week-old baby was also in the residence with the man. Authorities set up a perimeter around the residence.
Several agencies responded to the scene. Negotiators attempted to contact the man, but were unsuccessful. Authorities then breached the front door and used a robot to search the residence.
Bennett was found sleeping on the couch. Authorities entered the home and located the child unharmed. The child was reunited with her mother.
The Scott County Sheriff's Office and Elko New Market Police Department are investigating.
