Elizabeth Warren Backs Keith Ellison In DNC Chair Bid
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Rep. Keith Ellison has another champion in his run to be the chair of the Democratic National Committee: Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
The Massachusetts lawmaker released a statement Wednesday, praising the congressman from Minnesota's 5th District for his grit, values and dedication to making America work for all its citizens.
"I've watched up close as he has pushed hard to try to hold Wall Street accountable through his work on House Financial Services, and he has consistently exercised bold leadership for the Congressional Progressive Caucus," Warren said.
Ellison, the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress, put his name in the race to head the DNC on Monday, nearly a week after Democrats suffered a stunning loss in the presidential race when Donald Trump topped Hillary Clinton.
Other Democratic leaders to endorse Ellison for the spot include Sens. Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer and Amy Klobuchar, and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.
If Ellison wins the spot at the head of the DNC, he will continue to serve his constituents in the 5th District, holding both posts.
