Edina Apartment Residents Displaced After Large Fire
EDINA, Minn. (WCCO) – An entire apartment complex had to be evacuated and several residents have been displaced after a fire in Edina late Tuesday night, according to authorities.
The Edina Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at the Parklawn Apartments on the 4100 block of Parklawn Avenue at about 11:20 p.m. When authorities arrived, they found smoke on the first floor and helped get residents out of the building.
Fire crews immediately hit the first floor of the complex to battle the blaze, but it quickly spread to the second and third floors. Authorities said the fire was contained to three units at the complex, but they are completely destroyed. There was also some smoke damage in neighboring units.
Several departments from neighboring cities responded to the scene to provide assistance, including Richfield, Hopkins and St. Louis Park. One firefighter from Eden Prairie had to be transported to Fairview Southdale Hospitale nearby after suffering a knee injury while battling the fire from the roof.
No residents were hurt in the fire. The Edina Fire Chief said several hundred people will be displaced because power and gas were shut off to the entire building. The American Red Cross will be coming to provide assistance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
