Eden Prairie Native Nick Leddy Shows Off Stanley Cup In MN
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Stanley Cup spent the day in Minnesota Friday, as Eden Prairie native Nick Leddy's Chicago Blackhawks took the NHL title.
And it's tradition that each each member of the winning team gets 24 hours with the Cup to do whatever they want with it.
On Friday, Leddy took it on a hometown tour.
A crowd of 1,400 gathered at the Eden Prairie ice center.
"I've created so many memories here, that's why I brought it back here, because this place is so special to me," he said."
The hometown hero also wore his hometown jersey.
"To be honest, I thought of it yesterday. We had it hanging up on the wall, so I saw it up there," Leddy said.
Then it was on to Amplatz Children's Hospital before stopping at the U of M, where Leddy spent his college years.
Due to some logistic luck of the draw, Leddy was actually the first Blackhawks player who got to have his day with the Cup. Leddy will be the 30th Minnesotan to have his name etched on the Cup.
It flies to Toronto tonight as goalie Ray Emery gets it next.
Leddy -- minus the Cup -- will be the in-studio guest on Rosen's Sports Sunday.
