Man Turns Himself In After Fatal Stabbing In Eden Prairie
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Eden Prairie Police Department hopes a tragic ending for one family can help others.
Officers say 30-year-old Yeveginy Savenok turned himself in to police this afternoon.
His 23-year-old wife was stabbed multiple times inside their home on Park Circle. She later died at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Police told WCCO while it is early in the investigation, a history of domestic calls from the home serves as a powerful reminder for the whole community.
Investigators combing through evidence also have clues from the past.
"Our investigators are working very diligently to uncover all those facts and look at the past and put together an accurate picture," said Eden Prairie police Lt. Greg Weber.
Weber explains officers responded to the 17000 block of Park Circle around 10:30 Saturday morning on a call about a domestic disturbance.
"Unfortunately I think this is another tragic case of domestic violence," he said.
Inside the home, officers found the 23-year-old wife and mother.
She had been stabbed multiple times and died later at the hospital.
"We do have previous calls to that residence for domestic assault cases," Weber said.
Weber says Savenok fled the scene before officers arrived. After a two-and-a-half hour manhunt, Savenok turned himself in to St. Paul police. The couple's two and four-year-old children were with him.
Weber says Savenok is in police custody. He has been arrested in the past for domestic assault and was scheduled to go on trial later this year.
"These are real cases, they're very unfortunate and they're very tragic," Weber said.
It is unclear if Savenok was still living at the home with his family or what exactly led up to this crime.
