Eagan Woman Charged In 2-Month-Old Grandson's Death
APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (AP) — A 49-year-old Eagan woman has been charged in the 2012 death of her 2-month-old grandson.
Prosecutors say Johanna Mercedes Limpert Beeler was charged Tuesday with second-degree manslaughter in Dakota County District Court.
Court records show Beeler's daughter called police July 7, 2012, after discovering her infant son unresponsive in his grandmother's arms. The boy, Brayden, had been in Beeler's care since his mother had gone to a party the night before.
A criminal complaint states the responding officers suspected Beeler had been drinking alcohol. It says she admitted to drinking a significant amount of vodka.
Beeler told police she tried to feed the baby around 9 a.m. and then fell asleep with Brayden lying on top of her.
An autopsy didn't reveal a cause of death, but didn't rule out suffocation.
It wasn't immediately known if Beeler has an attorney.
