Duluth Police Advise No Unnecessary Travel
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Police in Duluth are asking people to stay home and travel only if necessary while a spring snowstorm makes driving conditions dangerous in northeastern Minnesota.
Police say the slippery conditions and poor visibility contributed to over 20 crashes Thursday.
Duluth public schools remain open. But several school districts along the Interstate 35 corridor from Hinckley to Proctor, and other parts of east-central Minnesota, sent students home between noon and 1 p.m. as a storm that made for hazardous driving across southern Minnesota on Thursday morning moved north.
Before the snow arrived, winds gusting above 50 mph knocked out electricity to more than 2,000 Minnesota Power customers in the Duluth area and kicked up huge waves along the Lake Superior shoreline.
