Duluth Moves To Prune Risk At 'The Deeps'
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Duluth is trying to cut some of the safety risk for thrill-seekers who plunge into a local swimming hole known as "the Deeps."
The Duluth News Tribune reports that workers lopped off several branches of a cedar tree near the water. Last summer, two people were injured jumping into the Deeps. The tree that was trimmed has been a launching pad for some divers.
City maintenance supervisor Tom Kasper says the trim actually was done last August, and some jumpers simply climbed to remaining branches. Kasper says the next step might be cutting down the tree entirely.
