Dry Winter Sparks Rare Dec. Grass Fire On Hwy. 52
ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A rare sight in winter sparked on Highway 52 near Downtown St. Paul Tuesday morning -- a grass fire.
The fire was spotted by WCCO-TV crews around 9:30 a.m.
Minnesota has gotten an unusually low amount of snow and precipitation this season, so the ground is drier than normal.
WCCO-TV noticed a crew from the Minnesota Department of Transportation repairing a bent fence in that area, but it is not clear what sparked the fire.
The flames spread fast because of the dry and windy conditions.
The St. Paul fire department was able to quickly get the flames out when they arrived.
