Drunk Driver Charged In Brooklyn Center Weekend Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 22-year-old St. Paul man is accused of driving drunk, losing control of his vehicle and causing an injury accident early Sunday morning, according to charges filed Tuesday in Hennepin County Court.
Mickell Dwaine Brown was charged with one felony count of criminal vehicular operation in connection with the incident. According to the charges, the Minnesota State Patrol responded to the area of Interstate 694 and Highway 252 at about 3:06 a.m. Sunday on a report of an injury accident.
When authorities arrived, two vehicles had been involved in a crash and both had significant damage. The driver of a black pick-up truck, later identified as Brown, appeared to be drunk. He took a preliminary breath test, which revealed a blood alcohol level of .13, well above the legal limit of .08 for driving in Minnesota.
The complaint states Brown told police he accelerated too hard on an interstate ramp, spun out on 694 and hit a victim's car. He also told police he could feel the effects of the alcohol he had consumed as he was driving.
The victim in the crash, who was celebrating a high school prom that night, was transported to a hospital for a concussion, spinal fracture and a sprained ankle.
If convicted, Brown faces up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
