Driver In Fatal Hummer Crash Pleads Guilty
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) -- The driver of a Hummer that struck and killed a motorist has pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide in Stearns County District Court.
Forty-three-year-old Eugene Rivetts initially told investigators he was a passenger in the Hummer that crushed a Toyota Corolla and killed 19-year-old Ryan DeZurik in August 2009. Rivetts acknowledged Monday that he was driving the Hummer that investigators say was going about 90 mph when it hit DeZurik's car near Opole.
The St. Cloud Times says Rivetts admitted that he had been drinking throughout the day. But, his blood alcohol level was never measured because Rivetts said he wasn't driving.
He will be sentenced Nov. 3. Prosecutors are recommending four years, 10 months in prison.
