Driver Gets 30 Days For Driving Cop Killer
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A man accused of giving a ride to a friend who helped in the killing a Maplewood police officer has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.
James Lentz, of St. Paul, had pleaded guilty to aiding an offender, a felony.
The 22-year-old was accused of picking up Joshua Martin, who was with Jason Jones when Jones fatally shot Maplewood police Sgt. Joseph Bergeron May 1.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that Bergeron had been searching for Martin and Jones for a St. Paul carjacking.
Lentz told the judge Monday that he didn't believe Martin when he told him he killed an officer because he bragged a lot.
Martin was sentenced last summer to 35 years in prison. St. Paul police killed Jones during a manhunt.
