DPS Reminds Drivers To Be Safe On Holiday Weekend
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is reminding motorists to be safe over the Memorial Day weekend.
From 2008 through 2012, there were a total of 28 traffic fatalities in Minnesota during the Memorial Day weekend. Fourteen of those deaths were related to drunken driving, and 10 of those who were killed were not buckled up. Seven of the fatalities involved people on motorcycles.
The DPS Office of Traffic Safety is reminding motorists that law enforcement officials around the state are increasing seat belt patrols from now through June 2. Under state law, drivers and all passengers must wear seat belts.
Officials say it's important to buckle up, drive at safe speeds, drive sober and pay attention.
