Dozens Rally Outside Mpls. Police Dept. For Terrance Franklin
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Chanting "no justice, no peace" a group of a couple of dozen protesters gathered outside the Minneapolis Police Department headquarters on Saturday afternoon.
Dozens Rally Outside Mpls. Police Dept. For Terrance Franklin
Organizers demand justice for 22-year-old Terrence Franklin who was killed by Minneapolis Police in a basement shootout in Uptown back on May 10. Police said Franklin shot and injured two Minneapolis officers.
Rally organizer Mel Reeves said it's time people of color were treated equally by police.
"What they did in Green Bay is what they do when they have their uniform on -- that's what I want to say," Reeves said. "Police have been acting like vigilantes while in uniform."
Protesters want an independent investigation into the fatal shooting of Franklin, as well as the immediate prosecution of the officers involved.
The rally comes despite new evidence the city released that shows Franklin's DNA on an officer's gun.
A civilian grand jury will go over the matter in mid-September.
