Dozens Of Small Dogs Rescued From Aitkin Home
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (WCCO) -- Nearly 70 dogs were taken from their owners in Aitkin County last week and those dogs are now getting ready for new homes.
The Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley has been caring for the dogs. Some needed surgery, all needed baths and most have some kind of behavioral issues because they were living in cramped and unsanitary conditions.
Most of the dogs are smaller breeds, and will likely find new homes after Christmas.
"They're not house broken, they will need some extra TLC to get them accustomed to living in a home," said Kathie Johnson with the Animal Humane Society. "A lot of these dogs do have medical problems, medical challenges, dental disease, things like that, so it will be really important that people who are interested in adopting them really consider those points before they elect to adopt."
The breeds include Miniature poodles, Miniature Pinschers, Chihuahuas, Shih Tzus, Dachshunds and Shelties.
The Humane Society will explain the special needs of each of these dogs during the adoption process.
