Dozens Displaced After Roseville Apartment Fire
ROSEVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) -- About 60 people were displaced from their homes after an apartment fire in Roseville.
Firefighters responded to an apartment building on the 1400 block of Terrace Drive at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
When the fire was extinguished, four of the building's 36 units were destroyed, and another six have heavy smoke and water damage.
Everybody got out safely, but at first, there was some confusion about why the alarms were going off.
"There was a guy in the hallway yelling, 'Everybody get out!' And I was just trying to get my cat under control and my wallet and keys and some shoes and a shirt," said resident Lori Yungner.
The fire forced everyone out of the building overnight because firefighters had to cut utilities. Everyone else was able to find somewhere to stay.
Residents were allowed to return to retrieve belongings Friday morning, but no one will be able to move in for a few days at the earliest. Those farthest from where the fire burned may be back in by the end of the weekend. Others may not be able to move in weeks away.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but firefighters think it may have started on a third floor deck. Authorities acknowledged that a charcoal deck was found on a deck, and it will be investigated as a possible source.
