DNR Postpones Aquatic Invasive Species Training
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is postponing the launch of an aquatic invasive species training and trailer decal program while legislators consider modifying the law.
The state Legislature passed the law in 2012 that requires boats owners and others with docks and lifts to take the training and display a decal on their trailer. The effective date in July 1.
DNR assistant commissioner Bob Meier says because of the ongoing legislative discussions about changes in the law, the agency will postpone the launch, which was scheduled at the end of the month.
Some have raised concerns about the way the law is written. For example, people transporting boats on trailers through the state to another destination are required to take the course and display a decal even if they don't put their boat in Minnesota waters.
