DNR Doubling Invasive Species Fine Effective Sunday
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – Starting this weekend, it's going to get a lot more expensive for Minnesota boaters if they're caught with invasive species.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is doubling the fine from $50 to $100, starting Sunday, for finding invasive species on boats. Officials are hoping the measure will limit, if not eliminate, zebra mussels on Minnesota lakes.
DNR officials will be out on lakes this weekend inspecting boats for aquatic invasive species. There will also be 23 decontamination stations at various lakes around the state.
