DNR To Deer Hunters: Get Your License Early
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The firearms season for deer hunting is just a few weeks away, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says hunters are encouraged to get their license early.
The firearms season in Minnesota starts Saturday, Nov. 5. DNR officials say there are nearly 500,000 deer hunters in the state, so those who plan on hunting should get their license early. In doing so, hunters can avoid long lines and any potential hiccups that are associated with a high volume of license sales.
DNR officials said last year, they sold more than 145,000 licenses on the Thursday and Friday before the deer hunting opener. Last year, about 30 percent of firearm hunters successfully got a deer. About 63 percent of those were antlered bucks.
Officials say about 70 percent of deer harvested happens in the first three or four days of the season.
