DNR Declares 'Ice-Out' In Minneapolis Chain Of Lakes
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Despite the chill in the air, signs of spring are emerging.
The change of seasons is marked with open water on the lakes. The blowing winds and warm sun have melted the ice off many Twin Cities lakes.
This week, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources declared an ice out on the chain of lakes in south Minneapolis. The Freshwater Society and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Water Patrol says Lake Minnetonka is almost there too.
About 10% of the lake is still covered in ice, but the upper lake bays and channels are fairly open.
