DFL Vet Higgins Won't Run For Reelection
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Democratic state Sen. Linda Higgins is announcing she will not run for reelection next year in her Minneapolis district.
Higgins was elected to the state Senate in 1996 and represents parts of the city's downtown and north side. She chaired several Senate committees when Democrats controlled the chamber prior to the 2010 election and is currently the DFL lead on the Environment and Natural Resources Committee.
Higgins says in a press release Monday that she will serve out her full term which ends next year. Her decision along with recent resignations by senators Linda Berglin and Larry Pogemiller constitute a significant loss of seniority for the Minneapolis delegation in the state Senate.
