Developers Unveil Vision For Duluth Bayfront Site
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- A plan to redevelop an old cement terminal could transform a portion of Duluth's waterfront.
The owners of the former Lafarge cement terminal are laying out a vision for the property that would include a floating restaurant and bar. It would also have slips for recreational boaters, condominiums, a competitive skating oval, retail shops and a display area for the city's Leif Erikson Viking ship.
Sandy Hoff is part of a group that bought the Lafarge property for $1.3 million about a year ago. He says it's a chance to "create something wonderful" on the waterfront.
There are plenty of hurdles to clear, agencies to negotiate and partners to work with. Duluth's economic development authority owns about half the site that Hoff and his partners want to develop. Hoff says the most optimistic plan would have construction starting next spring.
